Our Part: Scriptural Foundations

Receive a grade

While the words "plan of salvation" are not found directly in the Bible, the steps are outlined in several key scriptures. Take some time to review the headings below and read through the references. When you do have the opportunity to share the plan of salvation, it can be incredibly helpful to be able to reference where, specifically, the Bible speaks about these steps.

Repenting

  • Acts 2:38 "Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit."
  • Luke 24:47 "and repentance for the forgiveness of sins will be preached in his name to all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."
  • Acts 3:19 "Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord."

Believing

  • John 3:16 "For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life."
  • Acts 16:31 "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved—you and your household."
  • Acts 10:43 "All the prophets testify about him that everyone who believes in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name."

Confessing

  • Romans 10:9-10 "If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved."
  • Matthew 10:32-33 "Whoever acknowledges me before others, I will also acknowledge before my Father in heaven. But whoever disowns me before others, I will disown before my Father in heaven."
  • 1 John 4:15 "If anyone acknowledges that Jesus is the Son of God, God lives in them and they in God."

Receiving

  • John 1:12 "Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God."
  • Ephesians 2:8-9 "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast."
  • Romans 6:23 "For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord."
