Practice the Craft of Disciple-making in the Word

As a close to Interpretation module, I will ask you to discuss in your small group how you might disciple your disciple-in-the-making in the Interpretative process you have just completed yourself.

  1. Interpretation is answering the question, "What DID the text mean?"
  2. Explain to them the importance of both the “what and the why” reading with the Community of Faith. How might you assist them to fashion their interpretation in an orthodox way. A new and innovative interpretation is probably not the best way to interpret scripture. Reading-understanding-Applying within the "tradition of the Church" is a helpful guideline or compass calibration.
  3. Can you put together a smooth flow to the discussion of Context is Everything regarding Literary, cultural, and linguistic contents (Word Studies).
  4. What is the danger of not doing this research work and merely "guessing" what culture was like and what words meant?
  5. Why not merely jump from the reading of the text immediately to its application WITHOUT doing Interpretation?
