This course is a self-directed study completed in the senior year of the B.A. Ministry (Evangelism & Social Justice major). The student focuses study on an area of particular interest within the realm of evangelism, compassion, or social justice ministry. Areas of interest may arise from participation in previous Praxis experiences.

SO309: Cultural Anthropology Fall 2025-2026

This course is an introductory anthropology course taught from a Christian perspective. The focus of the course is in gaining skills to analyze and understand, appreciate those of other cultures, as well as to be able to adapt more effectively to new cultural and ministry settings. The practical component of the course is the successful completion of the ethnographic and/or quantitative study of a cultural or social situation in the surrounding community and beyond.

WL402: Worship Leading II Fall 2025-2026

This course offers further inquiry into the art of worship leading and explores by practical application the necessary skills needed by a worship pastor. Emphasis is placed upon the practical principles involved in giving leadership to rhythm sections and vocal teams, as well as looking at the more unique non-Sunday worship planning needs (i.e. Christmas, Easter, etc.) that a primary worship leader needs to think about. The hands-on design of this course is to assist the student in gaining competence in using the tools and techniques of worship leading.

This course studies social systems and their development from early times to the present. The course is designed to enhance the student's appreciation of the various forms of social life as well as show the complex forces at work within the scope of social life. This course gives an overview of counselling theory, and reviews and practices skills of being a good helper and counsellor. The integration of theology and psychology is considered and foundational understanding of people and what is needed to promote healing is studied and practiced.

This course acquaints students with various learning theorists and models of learning. It also addresses pupil variability, its measurement and evaluation, and student motivation.

PM400: Pastoral Ministry Fall 2025-2026

This course studies the real-life work and responsibilities of the pastor (except preaching). Students are exposed to both the ‘up-front/public’ ministries of a pastor, as well as the ‘behind-the-scenes’ responsibilities. Many practical areas of pastoral ministry are explored through lecture, demonstration, practice, and visits to local churches.

This course presents concepts regarding ethical issues encountered by the pastoral counsellors and licensed professional counsellors. Areas of interest include ethical principles, professional codes of ethics, identifying and resolving ethical dilemmas, ethical decision-making models, and legalities of the profession.
