Management in Ministry (MIN 415) seeks to develop an understanding of the practicalities of the ‘behind-the-scenes’ administration in the local church and other Christian organizations. Consideration is given to the specific responsibilities of pastors and Christian leaders in such areas as leadership and management basics, managing volunteer teams and paid staff, time and self management, change management, and financial and operational management. This course also includes an introduction to parliamentary/business meeting procedures.
This course discusses major theoretical concepts and evidence-based insights pertaining to lifespan development. It focuses on key perspectives related to foundational theories and methods, and considers various aspects of individual growth from prenatal development to adulthood. Emphasis is placed on factors that impede and foster healthy development and adjustment in children, adolescents, and young adults.
This course maps the close connection between the spoken and the performed Word. Special attention is given to the ways in which the written Word and the sacraments are meant to operate in the life of the church as a means of ongoing, transformative grace. Students evaluate their current church experiences in light of these principles and develop a plan by which they may apply them in their ministry to a local congregation.
Introduction to Counselling (PSPM 551) seeks to introduce you to skills that will assist you in helping people through a process of healing, wholeness, and health. The integration of counselling theory and Biblical principle will be developed and practiced to increase the student’s comfort level.
A major objective of this degree is to provide a special emphasis on integrating scripture and biblical theology with pastoral leadership, worship, evangelism and discipleship, a deeper understanding of the church, and spiritual formation. Class work in each of the specific MA courses will include the opportunity to design assignments around some ministry need or theme each student will choose.
In order to further facilitate the program objectives, the final course in the MAPT program is a Capstone Project in which students will revise, compile and/or create a set of ministry resources oriented around a particular need or theme they had earlier identified at the beginning of (or during) the program. This project will involve the processing, assimilation, and compilation of principles, insights and methodologies gleaned from the integration of class work and ministry involvement in the core curriculum of the degree. The completion of this project will be your final “class.”
Crisis Counselling (PSPM 411) seeks to provide both theoretical and practical approaches to crisis intervention and counselling.
This course will present an overview of addiction. It will examine the cultural attitudes toward substance use and abuse; physical, psychological, social, emotional, and spiritual factors related to addiction. Issues of prevention and treatment will also be examined.
This course gives you a chance better to understand Christian theology, particularly from a Wesleyan-Arminian perspective. This course should help you better grasp our theology intellectually, better know the God our theology describes, and better serve Him and His people.
The field of Christian doctrine will be studied in this course. The course surveys the general field of theology and is a study in basic beliefs and why we believe as we do. Later courses will go into more detail on various doctrine.
This course will enable the student to gain a clearer understanding of the Old Testament as whole, as well as its parts. Students will gain factual knowledge that can be passed along so that all can better know the God of the Old Testament and share His good news with others. The student will gain knowledge about the structure, content, history, and geography of the Old Testament.
This course provides tools and techniques for biblically-based preaching and provides practice in preparing various types of expository sermons from select scripture passages.
