Systematic Theology (TH 551) aims to lay the foundation for a firm grasp of the basic doctrines of the Christian faith.  While the theological perspective assumed is that of the Wesleyan Church, the student is encouraged to interact with other Christian perspectives as a way to gain a clearer understanding of his/her own view.

BT 501: The Bible as Christian Scripture (Term 6 2022-23)

The Bible as Christian Scripture is normally the first course taken in the M.A. (Pastoral Theology) degree. It focuses especially on the formative role played by the Bible (as the Word of God) in shaping the life of a healthy congregation. Special attention will be given to the ways in which different genres of scripture, as well as various books of the Bible, are to be utilized in both private and public worship.

This course is an introduction to hermeneutics, the art of biblical interpretation, through the study of the principles of induction, the development of skills, and the use of various reference tools which are applied to specific books of the Bible.

The student will gain knowledge about the structure, content, history, and geography of the New Testament.
